This is the most impressive NBA MVP race maybe ever — and here are 12 stats to prove it. But the race appears to be narrowing to two candidates, James Harden and Russell Westbrook. Obviously, Houston is going to vouch for its superstar, but now it has taken its campaigning for Harden to another level. After Harden and the Rockets obliterated Oklahoma City, 137-125, on national television Sunday, with Harden having 22 points and 12 assists, here’s what they tweeted. An #MVP performance by @JHarden13 today. pic.twitter.com/208UKAbd6k — Houston Rockets (@HoustonRockets) March 26, 2017 WHEW that’s hot. Gahdamn that’s savage. That’s some take no prisoners ish. This is obviously inspired by Drake’s recent More Life album cover, and it touches on the two parts of Harden’s MVP candidacy that theoretically put him ahead of Westbrook. His team is better, for one, comfortably sitting in the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference while the Oklahoma City Thunder are bouncing between No. 6 and 7. The other argument is that triple-doubles don’t really mean anything — they’re incredibly impressive, but is 10-10-10 really that much more impressive than 9-9-9? Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has mentioned this before on Twitter. If we might make someone MVP because they have hit a random combo of numbers then why not this random combo? https://t.co/HnAEvNHTfo — Daryl Morey (@dmorey) March 18, 2017 And again, more recently: This is not a round number https://t.co/c5wDkErdh4 — Daryl Morey (@dmorey) March 25, 2017 Morey’s argument is, obviously, that we care more about triple-doubles because we just love derivatives of 10. Our number system works in the power of 10, after all. There are plenty of incredible statistical numbers that would show Harden ahead of Westbrook, but they just aren’t as consumable for the general public. While that’s always going to be the case, MVP voters should look beyond that when making their selections. So, naturally, the Rockets took Morey’s argument and made it concise and consumable by turning it into a meme. An incredibly effective one, at that! Life’s funny sometimes. The one other wrinkle to this story is that Harden and Westbrook are actually pals — he seems like one of the few people Westbrook does like around the league. The former teammates are still very friendly when they play each other or attend NBA events together. Hopefully, this race doesn’t get in the middle of that.
madpicks New Post has been published on https://www.madpicks.com/sports/ncaab/rockets-showed-off-incredible-offensive-power-1st-half-vs-thunder/The Rockets showed off their incredible offensive power in the 1st half vs. ThunderHoly crap the Rockets offense is good. The Houston Rockets came two points from this season’s best half on an ESPN primetime game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. They scored 79 points on 73 percent shooting, including 11-of-18 from behind the three-point arc, and they did it all while taking ONE two-point shot outside the painted area. Really. “You’re gonna have to take some non-paint 2s,” they say. Not the Rockets. They took ONE mid-range shot on 42 first-half field-goal attempts pic.twitter.com/PHeavp0HjS — Fred Katz (@FredKatz) March 26, 2017 The Rockets were poised to blow by this season’s high, which is 81 points — done by the Cavaliers on Nov. 23, the same night the Warriors scored 80 points in their first half. But Houston missed a couple makeable shots late that otherwise would have propelled them past that mark. Once, it looked like Patrick Beverley might be able to squeeze in a layup, and passed it up. At the end of the half, Trevor Ariza’s half-court bomb was just barely too long. Instead, they had to settle only for a 20-point lead at halftime and 12 missed shots (in 42 attempts) as they demolished the Thunder in that 1st half.
Yes, sure its fun to see a lady spin around like that, but I had one of my friends ask me - “Where do you even use this mate?” Here’s one application that I know very well off.Spin StabilizationIf you have ever seen a rocket launch, you might know that sometimes the rockets are given a spin while launching. This is known as spin stabilization.Basically, the rotational inertia of the rotating body will stabilize the rocket against any disturbances and help maintain its intended heading. The same principle is used in rifling of firearms as well. **YoYo DeSpinOkay, now there is the question how to “De-spin” the rocket:Well, you do what the lady does: stretch out your arms and you will slow down !The rocket has weights connected to a cable that stretch out and almost immediately the rocket slows down. This maneuver is known as the YoYo DeSpin. ( Damn good name ! )All thanks to the conservation of angular momentum ! Have a good one !* Another method to stabilization : 3-axis stabilization ** Bullets spin stabilization - post** Source rocket launch video
